MANUSCRIPT GUIDELINES

Submission Guidelines:

— We are not able to review incomplete manuscripts. You will receive a written response generally within ten (10) weeks. Note! Unsolicited manuscripts/books will not be returned unless a self-addressed, postage paid envelope with sufficient postage accompanies the documents. Please do not submit originals; we are not responsible for lost manuscripts. Scripts should be sent through the mail. They should not be sent via email or fax.

— We do not publish reprints, poetry, plays, essays, novels, autobiographies, or biographies.

— Typically, we do not publish manuscripts exclusively addressing the Continent of Africa.

— Generally speaking, African American Images publishes books from an Afrocentric frame of reference that promote self-esteem, collective values, liberation, and skill development.

— We do not publish adult fiction. Our adult books, however, must provide solutions for African Americans.

— We do publish juvenile fiction and non-fiction.

— We can provide illustrations for the publishable work.

— Once a manuscript is accepted for publishing, a rough draft should be submitted on a 31/2" diskette. A hardcopy s/b included using Microsoft Word 5.0, 6.0, or Aldus PageMaker 5.0, 6.0, or 6.5 (Dos version).

— African American Images does not advance royalties.

House Style
In the event that our office agrees to publish your work and in order to expedite the production of your book, please incorporate the following format when typing the script.

Two (2) manuscripts should be submitted. One should be typed single-space and printed in the style the author wants it to appear. The second manuscript should be typed double-spaced.

The manuscript should be typed in the Microsoft Word 5.0, 6.0, or Aldus Pagemaker 5.0, 6.0, or 6.5 (Dos version). A 31/2-size diskette is needed.

Each chapter should be placed in a separate file. There should also be separate files for back matter (References, Bibliography, and Appendix) and separate files for front matter (Table of Contents, Introduction, and Preface).

The manuscript’s left and right margins should be 1" each.

You may use whatever style would be most helpful in spelling, pronunciation and emphasis: Consistency, however, is crucial.

When using charts, please use Microsoft Word’s chart format.

Use the spell check function to make sure all spelling is correct.

We appreciate your interest in our PUBLISHING services.
